The
strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
The “Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” is a novel written by
Robert Louis Stevenson, author of also other successful
books, like “The treasure island”, published for the first time in 1886. But
Stevenson presented the second version of the book, because he burned the first
one after the negative valuation of his wife, and wrote the definitive version,
that would bring the book to success, in only three days. This book talks about
two men, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, in the London of the second half of the XVIII
century. The first one is a wealthy and famous man, a great benefactor
appreciated by everyone, the second is instead bad, frightful in the aspect and
in the actions, and the only feelings you can feel are resentment and hatred.
The lives of these two men, at the first time completely separate and distant,
instead are tied by an invisible link that will reveal dark facts. Rich of
suspense, this book is very intriguing and interesting, because it keeps the
suspense high until the final word.
This is possible also because of the simple
and nominal style adopted by the author, that gives a great fluency to the book,
interrupted only by the very careful descriptions of the character, more
psychological than physical, important to understand the full history. The
narration is very fluent and the richness of suspense, together with the
continuous new mysteries, infuse a desire to continue to read in the reader to
finally arrive at discovering the truth hidden in the pages, that is an element
present only in good books. The book offers also some interesting psychological
suggestions, in fact together with the narration in a mystery style there is
also a deep reflection on important themes that will be clear to the reader at
the moment of reading. So this is a very good book, to be recommended to
everyone because it is interesting, involving and deep.
