    The place of consumption for the main meal is the house. Only a small part of foreigners in Italy trust on welfare structures. Most immigrants adopt Italian breakfast because of it fast preparation, such as milk, coffee or tea, consumed with baked products. The breakfast of the original country requires often long time preparing and provides long cooking food and a lot of different foods. As the job of foreign women is especially dealing with housework and men work as dependent workers in companies or factories, the house they have lunch in often is the one of the boss. Instead the evening meal is more influenced by the cooking habits of the original country. On holiday, they choose the preparation of original dishes because it represents the best way to keep the traditions close to them.

     Work : a way to be integrated
     Work is a satisfactory reality for most immigrants. A really important part of these workers is employed in manufacturing (workers or craftsmen). They mainly work in  small factories especially in the fields that export fuel. Another part work in domestic activities or is engaged in catering. About the type of working relationship, 1/3 of the immigrants are dependent workers in families, while the remaining part of workers are independent. Nowadays accidents are significantly increased at work: the areas with more risk for foreign workers are: construction sites, metal industries, transport and agriculture.

      Housing  : a crucial matter
     Finding a house remains the biggest problem for immigrants. The living conditions of the immigrants are  characterized by a strong instability: most of them live in a rented house or find accommodation with  relatives, friends or acquaintances. But, after, the problem of overcrowding is a consequence: on average 3 or 4 people of the family living in a house, in addition to them there are 2 or 3 friends or acquaintances. In fact the prohibitive costs of rent, in a large city, induces the immigrants to peripheral areas. But in the last years. The growing trend is the buying of a house, linked to the possibility of a bank loan.

craftsmen : people who make things by hand := artisans
