      The advantages of immigration      
     The increase of foreign students in the Italian schools has been particularly significant in the last five years . Te students mainly come from non-European community. The distribution in the order of schools is so different: it is higher in elementary schools, followed by middle school and nursery schools. It is quite limited in the secondary schools.

      Some misunderstandings

When you ask the foreign people “what do you think of the Italian  and how they interact with immigrant people?” the usual answers are:

They are good people;

They help you if  they understand that you are sincere;

They are careful in the education of  their children;

They respect the elderly;

They don’t understand  the culture and traditions of the others’ country.

When you ask the Italian people “ what do you think about foreign people?” the usual answers are:

They prefer to be among people of the same country;

Undertake to learn the language;

They don’t understand that they must respect the laws of Italy.

Drawbacks of immigration

In recent years immigration has produced a feeling of rejection and hostility among the Italians.

The Italian civic sense of ten feels abused, because he feels that the rules applied to him should not also be applied to foreigners.

Basically the discomfort of the Italians is given by the fact that the presence of foreigners has worsened the quality of the services, there is therefore a problem of perceptions on the allocation of resources.

Then there’s the security question: for the Italian people, our criminals have joined those from other countries. Few Italians have a direct knowledge of the immigrants while many people believe only what they see  on television.

Finally some Italians believe that immigrants are a resource for the labour market but  get lower wages than everyone else.

nursery  school: kindergarten : the school you go to when you are a very young kid (maternelle)

the elderly : old people (les personnes âgées)

discomfort : when you are ill-at -ease (malaise, mal être)
