The "semaine de la Presse" in France
The "semaine de la Presse" in France enabled students
to meet journalists and thus get more acquainted with this job.
Several students realised on that occasion that they were not ready
to sacrifice everything, including their private life, free time and
holidays, to journalism, even if it was a passion. Others, however,
like Thomas from France, are dedicated, and want to succeed at all
cost.
It is worth noting that generally speaking, the meting was an
occasion for a sort of reality check, and it gave students an
opportunity to think things over. For those who still want to become
journalists, we can remark everyone has his or her own idea of what
he or she wants to do: Justine from France would prefer to write for
television, but not be on TV herself, while Anna from Poland would
love to be in the limelight. As for Violeta, from Spain, she seems
to prefer the radio .
Let us mention what our class did, to add to this theme
.
Our class , 1ES2 , worked on a project with the school media center
and the assistant for the center, together with the "Maison des
Journalistes" which organized a meeting with a refugee , a
journalist from Daghestan. The "Maison des Journalistes" provides
the journalists with accomodation for 6 months, and they take action
and tell people about freedom of the press, with their program
called "Renvoyé Spécial". This is how we met Diana Velibekova.
Diana Velibekova is a journalist who has been a refugee
in France for 2 years now. She started studying journalism at 15 ,
at university in Daghestan. She was interested in political
corruption. She wrote many articles. Her articles were too daring ,
and she knew the risks, but her willpower was strongest.
Then she was hired to work for TV . The most worrying
problems started with a video about political corruption in
Daghestan: namely, Diana and two other journalists denounced the
fact that someone who had been president for years still wanted to
hold on to power. And, as a matter of fact it turned out that the
man managed to have his son elected. That showed that family really
wanted to keep the power for themselves, and there was no democratic
process.
In this video we can 3 men who're talking about the end of the
present governement in Daghestan. This video is considered as
extremist and her co-workers were murdered so Diana decided to leave
, she had no choice. She managed to get fake id papers and she
became a refugee in France at The "Maison des Journalistes", in
Paris. She stayed there for 6 months and is currently staying with
her new friends in France. She regrets the life which she had before,
her family, her friends... In her countrie, no one denfended her and
now she doesn't write about her country any more . She always speaks
to her relatives through the Internet, but she has to be carefula;
her father's house has been searched , and her father threatened.
In spite of all her sufferings, Diana remains strong,
smiles to life and continues to fight for her ideas.
